1. How do I get a new electrical service connected on my property?

Call our Engineering Department at (509) 547-0556. It's important that you call before you purchase or install service entrance equipment, trenching, or conduit. Our Engineering Department will forward all the necessary information to our Customer Service Department to set up a monthly billing account for your new home.

One of our Field Engineers will review the meter base location, conductor route, and other required information with you. The engineer will also give you specific instructions about any trenching, conduit and other material that you'll need to provide and install for your new service and any associated costs.

For a new residential service you, or your contractor, will provide all trenching, conduit, and backfilling. We provide the first 100 feet of secondary conductor. Excess footage charges are $4.00 per foot beyond 100 feet. You'll also provide all service entrance wiring and equipment.

If your requirements are non-standard you may need to supply additional or specialized material and/or reimbursement of additional costs. It's important that all work and materials be in accordance with our standards and approval. We may require easements for new facilities. If an easement is necessary our representative will review this requirement with you in more detail.

Call the State Electrical Inspector at (509) 735-0100 for inspection and approval of your new service entrance equipment. They are located at 500 N Morain in Kennewick.

2. When will the electricity be connected to my new home?

After the State Inspector has approved the service and all fees have been paid, it will be another 5 to 7 business days before the crew will actually come to your home and connect the service.

3. How do I get my meter disconnected and/or reconnected for remodeling?

Simply contact the Engineering Department at (509) 547-0556 at least 5 business days in advance of when you need your service disconnected. Please be prepared to answer the following questions:

Are you increasing heat or air conditioning load? If so, how much (in kW)?
Are you replacing a meter base?
Are you relocating a meter base?
Are you considering a conversion of service wires from overhead to underground? If so, a sketch of your property will be very helpful.

If a licensed electrician alters the service the PUD can reconnect the service provided that the State Electrical Inspection Permit is posted and visible. However, we prefer that the State Electrical Inspector approve the service before we reconnect it. If you alter the service yourself, the State Electrical Inspector must approve your service before we reconnect it. When you coordinate closely with our Engineering Department and the State Electrical Inspector, service can generally be disconnected / reconnected on the same day.

4. How do I find out if an electrical easement is located on my property?

Call the PUD Engineering Department at (509) 547-0556. The Franklin County Auditor's office records all PUD easements. Their office is located at Franklin County Courthouse at 1016 North Fourth Avenue in Pasco.

Any of the local title companies may be of assistance. When property is purchased, a title search is done that includes easement information.
