Phone Scam Warning

Franklin PUD continues to warn of telephone scams targeting utility customers. Franklin PUD customers have reported receiving collection calls from individuals claiming they work for Franklin PUD and the customer is past due on their electric bill. Customers are told that if they don’t respond to a given phone number within a short period of time their electricity will be shut off. The scammers are also calling customers after business hours to collect which Franklin PUD does not do.Scammers are getting so bold as to show up in person to ask for money for late Franklin PUD bill payments.  They are wearing no name tags or logo clothing depicting Franklin PUD.  Again, this is not how Franklin PUD collects payments.  If you have any doubt, please call the PUD at 547-5591 and speak with a Customer Service Representative.

Franklin PUD does make courtesy collection calls after customers have received a “late bill payment due” notice in their monthly statement. Customers may offer to pay Franklin PUD at that time over the phone, but we do not solicit customers by phone just for payment. If customers do make a payment by phone, Franklin PUD gives them a confirmation code.

Any suspicious activity like this should be reported to Franklin PUD and your local police department.
