ADA Accessibility
In accordance with the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (“ADA”), Franklin PUD will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in its services, programs, or activities.
Employment:
Franklin PUD does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its hiring or employment practices and complies with all regulations promulgated by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission under Title I of the ADA.
Effective Communication:
Franklin PUD will generally, upon request, provide appropriate aids and services leading to effective communication for qualified persons with disabilities so they may participate equally in Franklin PUD’s programs, services, and activities, including ways of making information and communications accessible to people who have speech, hearing, or vision impairments.
Auxiliary Aids and Services and Other Accommodations:
Anyone who requires auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a reasonable modification of a policy, practice, or procedure in order to participate in a Franklin PUD program, service, activity, public meeting, or event, should contact the ADA Coordinator by phone, email, mail, in person, or other accessible method. Requests should be made as early as reasonably possible to allow Franklin PUD time to arrange the requested aid, service, or modification. Franklin PUD will consider requests made on shorter notice and will make reasonable efforts to provide an effective accommodation. Failure to provide advance notice will not, by itself, result in automatic denial of a request.
Modifications to Policies and Programs:
Franklin PUD will make reasonable modifications to policies and programs to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy all of its programs, services, and activities. Franklin PUD permits service animals and makes other animal-related modifications as required by federal and Washington law.
The ADA does not require Franklin PUD to take any action that would fundamentally alter the nature of its programs or services or impose an undue financial or administrative burden.
Complaints that a program, service, or activity of Franklin PUD is not accessible to persons with disabilities should be directed to the ADA Coordinator. Franklin PUD’s ADA Grievance Procedure and an optional complaint form can be obtained by contacting the ADA Coordinator, and is available at the PUD’s offices and website. A person is not required to use a particular form to submit a grievance.
No Surcharges:
Franklin PUD will not place a surcharge on a particular individual with a disability or any group of individuals with disabilities to cover the cost of providing auxiliary aids/services or reasonable modifications of policy, such as retrieving items from locations that are open to the public but are not accessible to people who use wheelchairs.
